Known as the “Golden Root,” turmeric is a flowering plant that is related to ginger and grows in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The rootstalk of turmeric is typically boiled and dried. Historians date the earliest use of turmeric to India more than 4,000 years ago. It is used widely today for cooking and in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine.
